About the artist

Jan Vincent Sam, 29, is an emerging versatile artist.
Originally from Kelowna, British Columbia, Jan is also a songwriter, musician and poet. During the past seven years he has experienced a number of soul searching events while on his journey; from living life on the streets as a busker to challenging himself spiritually, and coming to terms with his First Nations heritage, all the while with sketch pad in hand.
Jan’s experiences are reflected through his many art forms, portraiture being one of his passions. “Drawing people has always been a source of inspiration for me,” Jan explains, “ever since I was little I’ve noticed faces. Our faces are as unique as we are as individuals. Like photography captures the essence of a moment, I like to capture the essence of a person—their spirit.”
Jan's art has been commissioned by organizations such as Canada's Green Thumb Theatre and most recently exhibited by Vancouver's Friends for Life Society on behalf of Art for Life.
Ever-evolving yet distinctive, Jan's images are expressed in a variety of mediums including digital renderings, drawings, mixed media and photography.
Jan Sam currently resides in Kelowna, B.C.
